As we were watching the Mississippi State-Alabama game a discussion started regarding the distance between the teams. The two programs have played each other 96 times since 1902, and the short distance between the two (74 miles) is a big reason why.
Back in the day it was a matter of "let's find a team within driving distance." That's why Alabama has a losing record to the Georgia Pre-Flight Skycrackers, and Purdue is Notre Dame's 3rd-most-faced opponent.
