Payrolls for every MLS team in 2015

These figures were tallied by ESPN and shared on Fancred

When we first saw this graphic on Fancred we didn't know what to make of it... and to be honest, it just felt fake.

Jamie Goldberg at The Oregonian saw the numbers as well and did some digging. Here's what she found:

"The numbers reported by ESPN differ greatly from the salary numbers reported by the MLS Players Union. Timbers owner Merritt Paulson has said in the past that the numbers released by the MLS Players Union each year are inaccurate.

"The salary cap in MLS is $3.49 million, but teams are allowed to sign up to three "Designated Players," whose salaries do not count against the cap in full."

So who are the highest paid players in MLS for the 2015 season?

  1. Kaka (Orlando City FC) $7,167,500
  2. Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders) $6,695,189
  3. Michael Bradley (Toronto FC) $6,500,000
  4. Robbie Keane (Los Angeles Galaxy) $4,500,000
  5. Jermaine Jones (New England Revolution) $3,252,500
